There was heavy fog this morning and the best light is as it burns off, but it went more quickly than usual and I wasn’t getting anything worth keeping – until this little guy came to the birdbath. I’m not sure, but something feels like it may be one of the newest batch.
Just a tweak of Shadows and Highlights in LR; into PS for a dust bunny and some tiny spot cleanup of the rocks. Just cropped from the sides and a tiny bit from the bottom. No NR needed.
Beautiful Diane! These little guys have been supplying some great setups and images for you! They’re growing up fast and pretty soon will look just like Mom and Dad… ha ha.
Love the head turn and the display of the tail feathers and backside. The colors are all very complimentary.

Thanks, @David_Schoen and @Lon_Overacker ! I’m now sure – this is one of the newest babies, fledged July 2. I was thinking the older batch (fledged May 11) had slightly browner color, and yesterday after posting this I got two of the new babies perched next to one of the older ones, that I recognize from some sort of growth or dried mucus on its left eye. The newer ones are more gray. Do they suntan??
I’ll post that picture later today when I get a minute.
Hi Diane, terrific focus throughout on the bird. That narrow aperture really did the trick. I like the setting for this as the subtle colors of the background and the bird bath help to show off this juvenile quite well. I especially like the semi fanned tail and the blue coloring we see. Great you can capture these juveniles so well. I see ours in the yard frolicking about but don’t have a good position to catch them in photos.
Thanks, @Peter_Morrissey , @timothy3 and @Allen_Sparks ! Allen, I have propped up several branches where they like to sit and watch for bugs. I got very lucky two hours after this shot to find two of the second brood and one from the first brood perched together: Big sister is babysitting!

Be still my heart….such a sweetness to this tiny creature. Such beauty. I am in love. That is the artistic/expressive response that your technical perfection in this image made possible. Way to go Diane.

The same couple has nested here for several years (recognizable by the male having one of his left toes cut off). A neighbor with adjoining property said they didn’t have any nesting there this year for the first time.
