In the very early morning in a tidal pond of the Chesapeake Bay on the Eastern Shore of Maryland I found a group of about 40 egrets wading in the shallows. As the sun came up on this hot and humid morning the birds would inevitably move in their search for small fish. As this one took flight, I got a glimpse as to why this egret is called Great.
