Just a nice abstract - ICM - produced by taking a longish exposure whilst zooming - but this time holding the lens and rotating the camera.
I can see a green man sitting in a chair . The Green man represents rebirth in Celtic mythology.

Does it work ? is it a nice abstract? I think it works as a high contrast square format - but I have posted here the original portrait format, and a square crop. Which do you prefer??

First, what a great image. Immediately eye catching and interesting. I definitely see your green man. The colors are fantastic as is the composition. I prefer the square crop, it feels more proportionate for this image. The only thing I might do is a little dodging in the URC to lighten that area approximately the same as the other areas, it feels a little heavy to me. Regardless of that I love the image.
Very cool abstract, Huw. I probably wouldn’t have seen the green man without the cue, but once seen, he doesn’t go away. The final version is a decided improvement.
Nicely done, Huw. Isn’t it amazing what the camera can see when we give it whorl? That green man is priceless, and I appreciate the lore on it. I am a fan of the square crop, though the tall crop gives the dude some sky.

Huw: The two square crops are marvelous and for me fit the subject better than the full frame. I think I do prefer the bolder colors in you current revision but not by much. I’ve been playing around with similar swirls but haven’t quite found the right subject. You did great here. >=))>

Love the bold colors, and with that I prefer them in both the original and latest revision. The latest square crop works beautifully, especially given the swirl.
This makes me want to go outside and experiment. I’m wondering to myself why it would be different rotating the camera while holding the lens, vs. just zooming. But as I think about it, just zooming with the lens produces, well, a zoom effect. This swirl is wonderful.

It works for me. I’ve done this technique for flower swirls with ten exposures, but never a single exposure. Nice effect. Interesting you named it the Green Man. I was just talking about this subject last week with my brother @Ed_Lowe while visiting Longwood Gardens in PA. They have a display of Green Man heads along one of the outdoor fountains.
Huw, This image jumped out at me in the grid of critiqued images. The bold sweep of yellow offset by cooler green/blue tones is beautiful! I like the latest revision and the square crop that contains the swirls equally around the center. So much movement! Thanks for sharing your story about the green man and your notes about how you created this image. It is very inspiring for those of us who spend a lot of time playing with ICM.
