The Guard

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I stopped at a refuge in the southern part of the state Friday to check out the action. It still doesn’t have the mobs of waterfowl it gets in the winter, so there wasn’t a whole lot going on, but it’s become infamous for Kestrels perching on signs and this one was the first one after the entry station. You have to shoot form a car at this refuge and when I first stopped the background wasn’t all that great , but I moved a bit and found a spot with a nice fall foliage display in the far distance behind the sign.

Specific Feedback

I’m not sure about cutting off the bottom of the sign. Unfortunately, I did it in every shot from this position-a major failing I have.

Technical Details

Sony A1, FE 200-600 @ 600 mm, handheld, f/6.3, 1/1000, iso 2000. Noise reduction with DxO PureRaw4, processed in LR & PS CC. Cropped to 3685x5006 from a horizontal original.

Denny - Lol - Definitely “the Guard” . Great detail and true colours on the kestrel. Sweet the pose and eye contact, weathered sign, and perfect BG.
Really excellent -

HI Dennis, great image. I regularly see these fellas on the signs. Thanks for the report on the conditions there too. I had planned to go up there on Thursday, but won’t waste my time, now. Instead, I’ll go back to my local wetlands were all sorts of birds are happening.

Cheers,
David
