The Last Drop

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

There are more and more birds coming to drink from my water feature. This White-Throated Sparrow set up in a good spot. Getting the last drop falling from its beak was a treat. As this White-throated Sparrow straightened up from drinking a single drop fell off its beak.

Specific Feedback

This is full frame from about 10 feet away, with the leaves under the water adding to the scene.

Technical Details

R5, 100-500 @ 500, 1/400 s, f/10 iso 800, tripod, from a blind.

That beautifully spherical drop makes the image, Mark. You might play with bringing down the overall exposure a trifle and lifting the shadows a bit.

Mark: Iā€™m going to ditto Dennis regarding the exposure and shadows but this does work really well for me. Your pond is a treasure chest that keeps on giving. Well done. >=))>

Nice catch of the sparrow, Mark. I agree with the others about bringing the exposure down a tad and lifting the shadows on the tail and wing end. Those tend to draw my eye away from the beautiful bird. Great shot and a more way to shoot nature from home.

Hi Mark, great catch of the water drop and open beak. I like the overall setting you have created here including the leaves in the water. Looks very natural to me. Agree with the others on lowering the exposure some. Nice work.

Catching the drop must feel as a nice treat. It really makes the picture.
I can follow the former writers, insofar as it was possible to light correctly both the part of the bird in the sun and the one in the shadow. I think you found a nice compromise. And I am looking forward to more pictures from your very natural pool.

Nice to so close, good colors on the sparrow , Mark. My first impression was to the exposure on the bird should be taken down a bit . Nice coloring through the frame.
