The Conn. River was at dead low tide, and this group of Yellowlegs stayed for around 10 minutes. So sat in my camp stool and had fun.

Z8, Nikon 180-600mm & 1.4ext, f11, 690mm, +.3EV, 1/800, ISO800, Processed and cropped in DXO PhotoLab 9. I removed one stick from the lower front of the frame.
I really like this image Peter!!! I would have thought you had some avian directorial talent to get them all posed. My OCD brain would like to see a bit more on the bottom of the frame so there is equal space above the birds and below the reflection. Other than that it is a superb scene you captured.
Very cool grouping, Peter. All birds look sharp and the different poses adds interest. I could also see a tad more room on the bottom and maybe the sides.
I love all the wonderful poses you caught in one frame, Peter. My only nit was going to be a touch more room on the bottom, but I see that’s been addressed. For my taste this is a wonderful image that could set on the wall a long time just for the great poses.
The extra space at the bottom really works.
There is a little mystery in this image which acts as an hook to keep the viewer’s eye a bit longer and making the image a bit more special - when looking at it first I see two rows of birds with one missing from the bottom row..
My brain eventually processes it to realise it is a single row with their reflections… and finally realises that one bird is father away so has a “reflection” in a different proximity to itself.
Take a peek at the Gestalt theory in the discussions and it will explain my thoughts better and the “near symmetry” of this image
Hi Peter, I love all the poses showing so much of what shorebirds do on the flats. Reflections are great too. Adding room on the bottom was a nice add. I could also see some on the sides. Nice capture!
Thank you for the comments. I agree; adding more room on both sides of the frame would be nice, but you are looking at the edges of the frame. That’s all there is.
Agree with the others about the poses. This actually comes across as a single bird with different poses all composited together; which makes this capture even more special.
My only nit/suggestion was the space at the bottom and you took care of that! The light and colors are gorgeous.
