Several years ago we had a string dangling from an external rafter and discovered that young Pine Siskins loved to swing on it and flap their wings wildly. When I set up our main backyard feeding station I used a horizontal bar to hang feeders from and decided to attach a piece of rope for the Siskins. It turned out that the Goldfinches love it as a perch. They seem to have a liking for thin vertical perches. I spent a couple of hours two evenings ago photographing the goldfinches and this guy with the odd topknot gave me one of my favorite poses of the session.

That’s an interesting observation, Dennis. You certainly caught him in a fun pose. Nice details in this unusually marked bird.
