About This Image

I was captivated by this scene of water in turmoil with rapidly changing patterns of breaking waves, and wanted to capture the mood of this tumult without providing a sense of scale. Does it indicate a very rough sea, or is it an intimate capture of a rapidly-flowing river?

Could be either one, Phil. Just looking at it without reading your write-up, I was going to suggest that the image could use a focal point, such as a ship or a bird to emphasize the sense of turmoil, but given that you wanted to remove the sense of scale, that certainly wouldn’t work. The turmoil comes across very well, but I do think that to really appeal to a viewer, this image has to be printed large, so the viewer can imaging their self in the midst of it.

Thanks Dennis. Yes, I was disappointed with the look of this one when I posted it (it looked fine on my monitor), but decided to leave it there to see if it garnered many comments anyway. Lesson learned. Cheers.
