Composition. Does this work or is the tree distracting. As I waled around it seemed to lead me to the peaks.

I am finding it on the distracting side. My attention has a tough time getting past the tree.
I find it distracting, but I am the founder and sole member of the “lets do away with the obligatory piece of gnarled wood in the foreground of otherwise nice landscape photos” club.
I’m trying to figure out why this one isn’t working out. I must say I’ve made images like this in the past. Part of it is that the tonality of the fg is not that different from the bg. I think that having the branch coming out from outside the frame into the frame is a problem. However, Tony’s Yosemite image has that composition and it works. Perhaps it works because the fg is the main subject while here it’s supposed to be a lead in.
