The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

i took the shot during a walk with my dog (as usual) in spring time, when rivers tend to flood the areas around them due to rain and melting snow. The picture is a bit older, unfortunately I didn´t have a camera with me, so my smartphone camera had to do the job. Fortunately, it turned out that it can do also pictures with high contrast

Hi Ralf,
The images you can get from some cell phones today is pretty amazing. I am very much enjoying the mood you captured here as well as the range of tones in the scene. The diagonal placement of the shoreline works perfectly and creates a little visual tension. I also find the bridge in the BG to be very interesting.

While I like this as is I find the center of the frame to be the most interesting part of the image. I hope you do not mind, but here is a rework with what I was thinking. This is just my opinion of course. Very nicely done.

Thank you, Ed!
No, not at all and you are right with where the most interest is. But as a dog person, I had to keep the dog in the frame :slight_smile:
Yes, smartphone cameras are quite good now. The difference comes in the dynamic range and details when you watch the pictures on a bigger screen. On smarthone displays or tablets, the quality is fine for almost everything.

There’s something about those dark trees lit from behind that is quite elegant Ralf; I think this is beautiful. I adore @Ed_Lowe’s crop, because I think it is a wonderful balance.

Well seen Ralf, and the phone worked really well here.

Thank you, John!

A lot of interesting elements add up fora pleasing image. The boat, the bridge, the trees, the walkway with the dog and walker. Looks like you have a twofer here with @Ed_Lowe’s crop. Totally different mood between the two images. I seem to remember you saying you like your images dark, but I feel you should bring out the walkway and dog a tad more. Jmho of course and could be my monitor, cause I only have the brightness about halfway.

I like Michael’s rework. It’s good to see the dog and the full man rather than a silhouette of his upper body. You might address the branches in the upper right corner. Overall this has great mood to it. It’s a somber mood for sure but I really like it. You could make a good horizontal as well but that long line between water and line with the man at the end is a really big part of this image and diminishing that would not be good.

@Igor_Doncov @Michael_Lowe

Thank you, Igor and Michael!

I dodged the dog and his human a bit, usually I like a easter egg which is barely noticable but maybe it is too much sometimes.
The branches are also removed, these distractions somehow never catch my eyes in my own photos (nad remove in lightroom takes 5sec including masking :face_without_mouth:), thank you for mentioning.
