these images were taken at a lake near San Diego. Western Grebes and Clark’s Grebes
congregate yearly at this lake to breed. this is quite a spectacle. the breeding ritual is impressive and fascinating.

Nice series David. Love the details, fish, and good look at the red eye in the first image. Nice to get a double fish image in the second. And the rushing shot in the third shows off the classic mating time behavior. I also would love to witness and photograph these birds.
Great shots. Love the whole series. The first one with the fish I love the perspective. The two together with the fish is very nice but l especially love the rushing. What a great action shot!
Very cool series, David. I had some opportunities with the Westerns at Malheur, but though they looked like they might, they never made it to the rushing stage. The second image looks like it’s a bit bright overall. There’s not much detail left in the whites and the grays look rather light. I suspect you can just bring it down in the raw editor a bit.
The Western Grebe in the first image really pops, David. And the fish is a nice bonus. Good job on getting the rushing Clarke’s-a bucket list shot for sure.
