About This Image

A couple of days ago I was looking for something to waste time on when I spotted these two hares either fighting or practice-fighting. They were jumping straight up and boxing – behind low tree branches. I waited in hopes they would move into the open and they soon did, but the jumping stopped. This was the most action I got, and it looks like one has spotted me, as they soon hopped off, with no further indications of aggression.

I neglected to dial in a faster SS so just as well they stopped showing off. Minor tonal work in LR, then LR denoise and a bit of the sharpening slider. Then into PS for some minor BG cleanup and lightening. Slight crop.

@Diane_Miller

You have captured the aggression and interaction well. The background seems ok without distractions and the trees frame the subjects well.

I like you crop, though I suppose you might go a bit tighter . SS looks ok as does focus.

A nice capture of the hares in their environment. No suggestions, although I always wonder about high contrast mono in this type of image… not better just an alternative :slight_smile:

Those are large jackrabbits! They do blend into the setting quite nicely. Behavior is noted. I do find the trees in the background to be a little distracting but based on the circumstances of this image, there is little you can do about iit. It’s a good environmental shot with appropriate behavior.

Interesting image, you may crop off some foreground if you like.

I think the dispute over dominance comes through in this image, Diane, though part of that might be from the one hare spotting you. The image quality is excellent, so your settings worked for this degree of action.

Thanks, @Huw_Thomas , @David_Schoen , @JRajput and @Dennis_Plank ! I agree that a bit of the OOF FG could be removed – visualize it done to the master file, but it doesn’t feel like a big enough change to justify a RP. Huw, I thought this one was already pretty monochrome, but that’s an idea I will play with!
