About This Image

An image from Malheur NWR late last month. By the time we got to this location the sun was fairly high, but I was pleased that this didn’t come out too harsh looking and I really liked the setting.

Feedback Requested

I didn’t catch the beak in the full open position, so to me, this image lacks the feeling of exuberance that that pose conveys, so I was trying for a more environmental, sense of place image-hence the dominance of the sagebrush. The back view of the meadowlark with just a hint of yellow seems to me to fit that sort of image. Is there anything else I could do to take the viewer into the scene?

The Oregon state bird. Nicely composed with great detail and depth of field. The simplicity and monotone color surrounding the set it off. I like the positioning of the bird and the back view shows the detail of the feathers. I can hear it singing.

Very well done, Dennis. I particularly like the fact that the bird is doing something. That piques my interest.

Very nice, Dennis. I like the singing pose and the wider crop to show some of the environment. Good background.

Lovely catch – I too can hear it singing – one of my favorite bird songs! The colors show the sagebrush so nicely and the light looks wonderfully soft. The BG is gorgeous, but I could see a slight softening of what looks like a tree trunk just left of the bird.

Excellent! I have a few of these from Nisqually but not as nice as this one! Great shot with fine detail color and background

A fine image Dennis and one that is unique to my southeastern eyes. A fine pose and I like the inclusion of ample sagebrush.
