I graduated with a degree in graphic design from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I cut my teeth in the advertising business as an art director in the 1990s, then operated my own design firm for 15 years before selling the business and diving headlong into photography. My darkroom is long gone now, and my style has evolved from a somewhat journalistic approach to one that pays tribute to the natural world.
My images are frequently symbolic, with an eye oriented towards the subtle and sometimes overlooked elements of nature. My photographs are not meant to be pretty postcards, but rather frames that celebrate form, line, shape, color, and texture. I return to both familiar and secret places again and again to observe the changes brought about by the seasons, light, and weather. I use everything I know about the technology of modern photography combined with my artistic aesthetic to create images that show the natural world differently.
I write and publish on the subject of photography and creativity, have served as a judge for several photography competitions, and exhibit my work throughout California. I can usually be found tromping about in the wilderness areas in and around Yosemite National Park.
