I bought my first camera in 1947 in a second hand shop in Banbury, Oxfordshire when I was 15 years old, a Brownie Box this was two short years following the end of WWII in Europe and film was hard to come by. Whenever I could obtain film I took ‘snaps’ of the village where I lived, of some other places that I was to visit and little else.
Many years later, during a foray to Soviet Sector whilst in the Royal Air Force in Berlin, I purchased a Zorki II, a Russian copy of a Leica and used up much 35mm b/w film with that but without any outstanding results, my fault not the cameras.
Having been retired for many years now my interest in the hobby was revived when I picked up a book by Heather Angel the renowned nature photographer in a charity shop. Since that day, a few short years ago, I have taken many pictures of insects, flowers and some landscapes and although satisfied with most of them, having come across NPN I believe I have found a way to share some shots with like-minded folk, learn from them and therefore get more enjoyment and satisfaction from photographing nature.
