My photographs are taken for many reasons, some for use by wildlife rescue and conservation groups I volunteer with. Promoting wildlife, telling their stories, encouraging connection and understanding. Many, are for the scientific record, through Bird Life Australia projects and citizen science projects like the powerful owl project and echidna watch. Australia, whose anthem celebrates, beauty rich ard rare, has a tragically high rate of mammal extinction on the planet. The council area I live in, is a global deforestion hotspot, with 20% remnant vegetation left standing and plans to clear down to 8%. (Yes eight). Most people can not identify the animals they call into wildlife rescue, do not know bird species and are not even aware that most of the living things around them are even there, and are delighted when they discover it, enriched when they connect with it. Mostly, I takephotographs because the camera in my directs my attention to the incredible natural world around meā¦leads me on a journey of wonder, sadness and hope. The world can be beautiful and life, is a matter of attention.
