Photography has been one of my favorite hobbies for a little over 50 years. And during all these years, I’ve tried lots of different subjects, genres, and creative photography techniques.
Like many photographers of my generation, I started out with film and a spare bathroom turned into a makeshift darkroom. But chemicals and I never really got along. Ditto for black-and-white. Which is why, when digital cameras and colorful ink-jet printers came on the scene, it was a no-brainer to switch.
Some photography genres - such as small landscapes, close-ups of botanical delights, and nature’s patterns that form the basis for engaging imagination-inspired abstracts and composites – have had staying power since the very beginning. Others – such as wildlife/avian photography and even videography – have more recently been working their way into my suite of favorites.
I’m very confident that as I continue to evolve along my photography journey, there will be many more subjects and genres that will pique my interest.
It’s worth noting that my favorite camera accessory is the tripod.
Color has been my thing ever since I first discovered Eliot Porter’s “Intimate Landscapes” many decades ago.
True blue skies are always keepers. Telephone poles and fence posts, however, don’t fare nearly as well.
I brake for multi-shot panoramas, HDR sets, and focus-stacked sequences.
And on that note, it is my hope that you will enjoy the images on this website as much as I enjoyed capturing and creating them!
Cheers, Franz Gisin
