Hi, nice to meet you! I’m Gerard Oostermeijer from The Netherlands. Nature photography is my passion ever since my father gave me an old Zenit camera at the age of 12. My favourite places to photograph are in the Dutch coastal dunes, where I grew up and which take up a special place in my heart.
In the film days, I worked on 35mm and medium format. I have always been fond of black and white photography and spent many magical evenings in the darkroom. Currently, I mix b&w and color, based on what I think suits my image. Switching to digital has made this much easier. Currently working with Olympus/OM System gear, I photograph everything that I find beautiful or intriguing, from 2-4x macro to intimate and occasionally wider landscapes. I also love more abstract photography and do quite a lot of monochrome infrared.
Even though nature photography is my life passion, I don’t take myself too seriously and simply do ‘my thing’. I also don’t participate in contests (art and contests don’t go together, I think), I do love sharing my photographs with a larger audience, which I do through Instagram, my nature photographers club, the occasional exhibition and presentations at other photo clubs.
