Violist. Teacher. Photography. Dogs.
That’s it.
Julie Edwards is a professional orchestra musician living and working in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has been a member of the Utah Symphony viola section since 2000, and has served on numerous orchestra committees and boards, including the Board of Directors of the Utah Symphony, Utah Viola Society, American Viola Society, and the American Federation of Musicians Local 104.
Julie also maintains a private teaching studio and is honored to teach viola at the University of Utah. She considers teaching viola to students to be her highest career achievement and is proud of her students every day.
While Julie’s career has always been in music, one of her passions has always been photography. She began her photography education at age 12 by taking a class offered by the JC Penney photography department, aimed at helping new camera owners understand their cameras. The cognate area for her Master’s Degree in Music Performance requirement was rebelliously in photography and not another area of music, and she has taken numerous classes in photography at the UMOCA, formerly the Salt Lake Arts Center. She has had images juried into shows for the Wasatch Camera Club and Utah Arts Council (2009).
When she isn’t playing viola with the Utah Symphony or teaching students, you can find Julie taking and editing photos, and thinking about her next photography adventure
