Alone

Description

On a bus tour of the South-East parts of Iceland, there was one member who was a bit …over-enthusiastic. At this stop, he leaped out and ran across the ice and snow into the distance. He could easily have fallen into a crevasse or sprained an ankle or slipped and fallen badly.
But he didn’t. Eventually, he stopped to catch his breath, and I took the opportunity to take in the panorama in seven shots which I stitched together in Lightroom.

Your “colleague” stands out well here Pieter. He also sets the stage for how isolated the scene feels.

@Pieter_Opperman ,

Perfect title for this photo and great job on capturing this moment and seeing the composition in the first place. It really does impart the “alone” feeling.

Thank you, Mark!

Thank you, Youssef!

This is an excellent use of format to tell the story Pieter. I think the panorama view accentuates the feeling of openness and loneliness that can be in winter, and the “runner” adds so much to the perspective. I think the fact that he is so small enhances the “feel;” it just wouldn’t be the same if he were closer. Nice that he was willing to run in the direction of that valley :slightly_smiling_face:; the eye flow into that area is nice.

My only thought for ideas to play with would be slightly brightening the image, and then adding a touch of vignette. This might add to the effect of leading the eye to the runner and that central valley??

Thank you John…

I will have a look at putting in your suggestions, although I have to admit that I think I have taken this image about as far as it can go, and I am very please with it.
