About This Image

Another image from the September workshop in Härjedalen, Sweden, this year. This is a photo of a rather mundane reflection in a small pond. Immediately when I saw the reflection, I had this type of image in mind.

This is of course a non-documentary image, so I took some freedom regarding the increased saturation of the leaves. Is it too much?

Hi Ola,

I love the approach you took here. The crisp reflection of the trees and the fallen leaves on the surface of the pond create a wonderfully three dimensional effect. Part of the appeal for me is the dark, gray/blue tone of the reflection in contrast to the bright orange of the leaves. It’s very “Halloween” as we say in the United States.

No suggestions from me. I love it.

It’s raining leaves. Fabulous image Ola. Very imaginative and artistic. I like the liberties you took and what your imagination came up with. Of course if it were really raining leaves they would be all the same size. But it’s the size distortion that makes it interesting. The bright orange and yellows on dark is really arresting. Just a superb image all the way around. I was never into upside down reflection images before but this really works.

Fabulous indeed!! I’m so happy to be seeing your wonderful images again, Ola! I’m with @Igor_Doncov on how well this upside-down reflection works – most of them don’t feel that special to me but this one does! The saturation is just fine for me – the leaves look like they are having fun!

The leaves look like confetti raining down. It gives an interesting juxtaposition against the slightly distorted, dark and spooky background. This is a very interesting take on the subject matter. Nicely composed and I think the editing is just right.

Beautifully done, Ola. The small image had me fooled. The scattered leaves work perfectly and I like the accumulation of them on the bottom of the frame which makes a nice base and supports the illusion.

It’s beautiful, Ola - stunning. My own taste would be to drop the saturation / luminance on the leaves just a hair, but i think that is a personal style choice. It’s lovely as it is.

Stunning image, so beautifully done :heart_exclamation:

I must say, it is competition stuff :heart_exclamation:

Cheers !

You had me fooled! From the thumbnail, I thought it was certainly leaves blowing in the wind. I tend to like a little extra pop in my own images. So the color works for me. I would not have thought about it being upside down, if it was not revealed in your description.

Hi Ola,

This is wonderful ! The upside down reflection works oh so well for this autumn scene. For my own personal tastes I could see the saturation of the leaves dialed back just a little, but then I tend to not oversaturate my images so take that with a grain of salt. Very nicely done.

Very clever vision and execution
