The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I was out shooting blue birds, and went out a bit late because most of the bird boxes had babies ready to fledge. This one couple tho was late to the party because they had super littles and kept bringing in bug after bug. Somehow, I can’t imagine this cricket being gulped down by a little bird. Ugh. I like the shape the cricket had to it. While kind of disgusting, also kind of neat. lol By July the next batch of babies should be born, and I will go again to find more yummy images.
Specific Feedback
Just sharing a mountain blue bird with a delicious meal. A mothers love…

What a delicious-looking bug! LOL.. the babies will love it.
Lovely image with nice action and pose. The bird, especially the breast, seems quite dark, so I’d suggest lightening it. If you use Photoshop, easily done by using the “select subject” and then lightening up only the subject and working with the blues as well.
The eye is pretty blank as well, but easily perked up. simply circle the eye and use levels, curves or colour saturation to brighten it.
A really nice image worthy of bit more work.
If I have time later tonight, I’ll give it a shot as well.

That’s one good sized bug, Judi, and should keep the babies well fed. Good detail in bird and bug and nice background. Sandy has some good thoughts on bumping an already nice image up a notch.

Thank you for your thoughts. I worked on it a little bit more, but I’m not sure how to post the newer image…any help would be welcome! Thanks.

Hi, Judi - there are lots of useful tips in the FAQ - look under “About” at the top of the page.
" Posting a Revised Version of Your Image
When receiving critique, it’s good practice to implement the changes and post a revised version in the original topic.
- Edit your original topic instead of replying. This allows you to flip between the original and revised versions in the lightbox.
- Click the pencil icon at the bottom of your topic to edit and upload your revised version. Add “(+repost)” to the title to indicate a revision. Click ‘Save Edit’ when finished.
- Add the revised version at the top of the post to update the thumbnail. "
Anxious to see your revision, and more of your work!
That’s one well developed bug for this early in the season, Judi, and it looks like a great morsel for a young Bluebird. We have Western’s where I live and it’s always interesting to see how the provisions change over the summer.
I could see trying to bring up the shadows a bit and trying to bring out some light in the eye of the bird.
A couple of amplifications to adding a revised version: the little rectangle with an up arrow in the toolbar of the edit screen is the upload arrow. I usually edit the text to add “Repost” at the top of the post, hit the return and then upload the new version. I’ll also edit the text to add “Original” above the long ugly text string that represents the original image.
