I caught this acorn woodpecker frolicking in our birdbath. I see birds bathing here but I hardly ever see an acorn doing it. Fun to watch.

Nice action here, Dave. The color of the bird looks great, and I love the flying droplets. I do wish the bird’s head was sharper; the crest looks a bit soft. Your timing was perfect!

Great capture, Dave. I’ve seen the Acorn Woodpeckers at our feeders, but never in the birdbath. You caught some great action, with a nice pose.
I took the liberty of playing with this. I cropped to remove the wood and a bit off the right and added some canvas via “content-aware fill” on the left. I also sharpened it a bit using the high pass filter and vivid blend mode at 25% fill.

What an awesome catch! I love the expression… well, at least the eye gives me the impression the bird is surprised… or something. Great action with the water droplets. I’m no bird behaviour expert, but given the woodpecker’s I’ve seen locally and in walks in the park… it just seems almost out of place to see one in a bird bath. But hey, they like to cool off too!
