I was walking around a Scottsdale Arizona shopping area and noticed the patterns on the cactus.

I would like to get some feedback on the flow of the image. I try and take images that allow the viewer to move their eyes around the picture and find it interesting. Does this accomplish that? Also, I find the shadows of the needles add some depth to the image which do not show up as well in color
Hello Mike, I love your picture. The recurring pattern of the needles and their shadows in every line makes the composition stronger. The conversion to BW also is a clear improvement. Am I right to think that you turned the picture 90°? I turned my screen and got a less abstract version of the picture. But it is exactly this abstract feeling that in my eyes, makes your image stronger.
The only thing that I would maybe do otherwise is to crop the top line to reinforce the alternation of white and black lines. But this does not take away anything from the sharpness of your eye.
Awesome! I’d call this a Cacti Sandwich. Or maybe even a “Succulent Neopolitan” - you know the ice cream?
Great call on the rotation and going b&w. Really no nits or suggestions, although I agree with where Xavier was going with his comment about the top line. If anything I would “transform” the upper right edge and just bend the white part out of the frame. I would want to lose the needles along the UL edge. Maybe it’s best to post what I mean. Very minor suggestion.
Excellent job seeing and crafing this. The horizontal presentation really makes it too.
