The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I went out yesterday under heavy clouds with occsional spots of sunlight to look for spring colors. While I didn’t find what I had envisioned, I did make my first visit to Catoctin Creek Park and was impressed. Here are two different processing of the same photo, looking up the creek.
Specific Feedback
It was a very moody day with the heavy but not complete cloud cover, so the original idea was to show the subtleties of the spring colors while retaining the somber mood (that’s V1). As I processed, I also ended up with a version that looks more like a fine spring day (V2). So I’m curious about which version you like better and if the moody version has retained the mood.

Mark, a very fine scene from this perspective. For me I prefer the second version. However, they’re two very different feelings as a result of the processing outcomes. With that said, I like both for the two different feelings they provide. I’m sure my lean toward the second version is the warmer or brighter outlook on the day so to speak…
My brother would really love this scene too as a fly fisherman…
Hi Mark,
Both versions work very nicely depending on your mood at that moment. The first is more somber and introspective while the second is more airy and light; more hopeful if you will. I could also see combining both images as I like the water better in the first and the light on the landscape better in the second. Beautifully done.
A very lovely scene and photograph. The important factor about the mood - is that you were the one who experienced the conditions. I say that because when I look at the scene, I don’t see a heavy mood, ie. darker presentation… I see spring, which tells me vibrance, emergence and delightful and uplifting scene. Of course you didn’t say the scene wasn’t any of that, but I just see this more like the 2nd version, more open, light and springy.
Besides the lovely spring trees, the river plays an important role as well. In the 2nd version, which I prefer, the highlights are a tad bright, IMHO. I’d even go as far as saying another alternative processing would be to treat the water in the 2nd, like the 1st, darker more moody version. Just a thought.
