Have you ever seen a flower? I mean, really seen it… every curve, every nuance? Have you become so immersed in a flower that the rest of the world just fell away?
No less a visual artist than Georgia O’Keeffe had this to say:
“When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for the moment.”
So when I set about photographing, I first take a minute to quiet my mind, perhaps even closing my eyes for a few moments or longer. I tune out the rest of the world and slowly take in the flower from every angle before picking up my camera, remaining open and receptive to noticing everything about my subject. I let what I see touch me inside and move my heart.
