Frosty, Misty Morning

About This Image

After a stormy day with rain and snow mixed as the temperature plunged, the next morning was clear and cold. That meant lots of frost on the land and fog rising from even the coldest water. Those conditions make for a great time to explore Yellowstone’s waters. This is a view across North Twin Lake, where I’ve chosen to keep things dark as part of the quiet mood.

Feedback Requested

Getting both the frosted land and the mist rising from the waters proved to be a challenge, with this being one of only a few places where I succeeded. I have a brighter version of this but it looses the quiet mood.

Mark, this image has such a still, peaceful feel about it, I especially love the tree reflection in the water . My only nit is I find the horizontal log and area below a bit destracting . I wonder what it would look like with a crop just a smidge above the log??

Hi Mark,

This is absolutely gorgeous and dripping with mood! The light is sublime and the atmospherics with the mist rising from the lake give off this peaceful vibe that I find very inviting. I am also loving that frost accentuated by the back lighting on those trees along the shoreline. My only suggestion would be to remove that intruding limb towards the LRC. This had to be marvelous to witness first hand. This image ranks right up there with my all time favorites of yours.

@Mark_Seaver

A lovely image , love the peaceful vibes, mist and frosty trees.
You have captured the morning light beautifully

You might remove the branch in the LLC and possibly darken the little bright LUC corner as it pulls and competes the main light source in the centre

Mark,

This is a beautiful scene. I like the distinctness of the features in the foreground relative to the softness of features farther away. I also like the symmetry formed by the mountains and their reflection in the lake.

Overall, I think there are some areas of the photo that are too bright and distracting. The shoreline in particular I find to be a bit harsh. I wonder if it can be toned down without losing the misty effect.

It must be a great time to be hanging out in Yellowstone.

A beautiful, peaceful morning, Mark,and very well presented. I did find myself wondering what it would look like if you brought the highlights up in the frosted trees just a bit, but it might lose some of the peaceful feel.

I like this very much -especially the way the frost highlights and outlines the edges of the trees. Nicely done and I personally wouldn’t change a thing.
