M45, The Pleiades

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

The streak of clear, dark nights continues and I imaged this target last night for 8 hours – long enough to punch through the ever-increasing light pollution.

Technical Details

Astro rig, about 640mm equivalent focal length. 8 hours of 2-min exposures. Processed in PixInsight. There are several steps where stars can be easily trashed and I’m getting better at avoiding the pitfalls.

Diane,

Great work. I especially love the light brown dust clouds and the exceptionally round stars.

Thanks, @Youssef_Ismail – I think the lovely stars are the thing I love most about images with an actual telescope. Astro processing helps but the scope gets the major credit for great stars – even a fairly inexpensive refractor is so much better than camera lenses.

Diane, you nailed this one with the detailed wispy nebulosity around the stars. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, @Keith_Lisk! I wonder if I want to go a little less on the nebulosity. Even with this stuff, there is a lot of leeway in interpretation.
