Milky Way post processin in On1

I use On1 Photo Raw for my post processing and I’m looking for tutorials, videos, classes, etc. using On1 to post process milky way images. Everything I’ve found on On1’s website and Youtube is 3-4 years old. I’m looking for techniques using On1 Photo Raw 2024 or 2025 and their latest functionality. I’ve struggled to transfer techniques from Lightroom and Photoshop into On1. Any suggestions and guidance would be appreciated.
Jeff

Hi Jeffrey, welcome to NPN. I can’t help with On1, sorry. I can name drop NPN’s Nightscape and Astro Moderator @Diane_Miller. She may be able to point you to some tools/software that can help get your images ready for finishing in On1. Good luck with your exploration.

Cheers,
David

Hi @jeffrey4, and I’ll also extend my welcome to NPN! @David_Bostock, I’ve never used On1, but I know some people here do, if I could only remember who… You might check the tutorials by @David_Kingham, as he does night photography workshops.

In my experience there are two main issues with processing MW images – noise and odd star shapes rendered by our wide-angle lenses. The only halfway decent solution for noise is to shoot a rapid sequence of 10-15 shots of maybe 10 sec each on a fixed tripod and process in Sequator (PC) or Starry Landscape Stacker (Mac) to reduce noise. Then the odd star shapes can be corrected remarkably by a process in PixInsight, the software used for high-end astrophotography.

Good luck with your quest – nightscapes are so much more accessible with today’s cameras and lenses – and software!
