About This Image

I continue to see doe and fawns at the local state park. I was driving one of the side roads when I saw this fawn nursing. Shot from vehicle.

Feedback Requested

I like the behavioral interaction in this image and the yellow flowers adding some nice color.

I love it! (Who wouldn’t?) The fawn is in a dynamic pose having to work for its meal and Mama is looking like, “Excuse me, but I’m busy just now.” A wonderful capture with perfect light, great detail and an excellent crop.

If you were inclined, a good removal of the gravel should be possible, or at least change its color to blend in with the grasses.

Allen: you’ve captured a perfect moment. The eyes have it as the mother is looking directly at you and the fawn’s eye is easily seen. The pair is in an attractive environment which allows the animals to stand out. My only most minor nit would be to remove the stones? at the bottom of the frame.

Allen, clearly the doe is wary of your presence, even inside the car, while the fawn is totally focused on dinner… The details in the two deer look great with the flowers adding a good batch of color. Yes, I’d either burn-in or clone out the gravel.

Based on popular demand (suggestion), I posted a revision with the gravel removed.

Alan, this is such a nice image.

The removal of the gravel was a great idea. I am wondering if a slight boost in contrast would make the image pop just a bit. I love the composition with the various layers of the flowers and grasses.

Your timing was perfect.

Thanks Preston…I added a revision with a tad more contrast.

From very good to just about perfect!

The revision nails it - the soft flowers surrounding them is the perfect complement. Fawns are typically so excited and bouncy that they jab into her repeatedly - I think this helps with the let down process. As it ages, mom will be less and less cooperative. An excellent moment and more picturesque than the one I shot earlier this year through the downstairs window.
