Description

The white-faced heron, also known as matuku moana in Māori, is New Zealand’s most common heron.
White-faced herons occur throughout Australia, New Guinea and New Zealand. They are a relatively new species in New Zealand, having self-introduced in the 1940s.

An interesting variation on the heron family, Sandy. It looks like it blends very well with the rocks behind it. There are a couple of small brighter spots that tend to pull my eye a bit. I downloaded your image and circled them rather than try to describe their locations.

Very interesting Heron. I like the framing and background. The Heron has good eye contact, control of the whites and feather dental.
