I didn’t get anything but snapshots of the Palataki dwelling ruins NW of Sedona, but as we walked in this cliff face was pretty impressive. I think the dwellings were just off to the right. Possibly the area of petroglyphs and pictograms is under the overhang you can see just left of center. The dwellings were just a couple of crumbling stonework walls under a big overhang in the looming cliff wall. The trail to them is uphill through brush and trees so you don’t see them until you’re about 20 ft in front of them, and you can only stand right in front of them to hear a ranger presentation, then back down the trail and up a different one to the petroglyphs and pictograms, which is a grotto under an impressive overhang.
Specific Feedback Requested
I’m just posting it for general interest, since Kris put up some of the “wall art” there – it’s not worthy of any serious critique.

Is this a composite: No
Canon R5. Punched up the color a bit in LR and PS to try to make up for the harsh midday light.
Shot this pano on the way in, but not sure exactly where the ruins were.
I just now checked Kris’ blog, to which I’m quite new – she just did a new post on this place and got much better pictures than I did of the ruins and the “wall art” – and presents a lot of the history.
Ah thanks, Diane. The light was not our friend that day, but we cope, right?
I like the pano quite a bit. Shows what a fantastic landscape it is and how tough it must have been to live there. Even if it didn’t present the best photographic possibilities, I’m glad we went and saw the ruins, the cliffs and the artwork.
Looks like you made the best of the conditions Diane. You definitely captured the “iconic” Southwest/ Sedona AZ scene. I like to use “mid-day” “snapshots” to help me hone my focus on scenes for future/better conditions.
I’ve never been to Sedona, so thanks for posting this Diane, it looks like a neat place.
And thanks for posting the link to @Kris_Smith blog post, that was an interesting read, and Kris has some excellent to images to go along with the story.
