I was photographing this handsome male black-headed grosbeak that was partaking in some peanut butter on a hanging pine cone and he decided to take off and I just happened to get this moment of his glorious under wings.

A great moment - beautiful colors. The focus is on the cone, but, with a little realistic motion blur on the bird, this doesn’t matter to me, as it’s all about the pose and colors here. Maybe remove tiny white streak on the bird’s eye?

Looks like it’s commenting on the need for a refill here, Dave. I love the take-off wing spread that shows the colors so well. It’s too bad the focus was on the cone instead of the bird, though the nearest parts worked. That looks like a pretty thick cone, which is kind of necessary for the setup, but it makes getting enough depth of field almost impossible to get both the cone and the bird. Still a very interesting image and well composed.

Lovely wing position, and the highlights behind it are reminiscent of clouds.
