Image Description

Hiking on a late afternoon along the west coast in Portugal, I was fascinated by the interplay of the rocks and the ocean. Chosing an exposure of 20 seconds made the rocks appear like floating, despite of their steadyness.

I’m headed to Portugal later this week and hope to get some images like this! I normally don’t even think about doing long exposures but this does a great job of really emphasizing the layers and repeating patterns throughout the scene. I tried a crop to a 2x3 to nix the the little part in the bottom left, I also cloned out the last rock all the way at the top edge in the left corner. I was looking for a clean start and end to the frame. I’m not sure it is “better” but it may give you an idea or two. I also lightened up the darker parts of the rocks. As is, I think it is already a strong image! Hope you had a good trip and I can’t wait to be there soon!
