Description
It was at the turn of the year, when my wife and I spent a memorable week in Assisi in Italy. On January 1st we went to Sanctuary of Eremo delle Carceri, a hermitage in a forest on a steep slope of Monte Subasio, at 791 metres above sea level, four kilometres above Assisi. In the 13th century, Francis of Assisi and other men following him used to come to this remote place to pray and contemplate.
The image shows the surrounding forest seen from the hermitage. To my eye, there are outstanding personalities among the trees, giving support to the many individuals forming this forest. Some trees are still dating back to the 13th century.

Hi Peter,
I very much enjoyed the backstory on this image. I can see why this location would make a wonderful setting for a monastery as one enjoys the solitude and peaceful vibe of the lush surrounding woodland. I am really enjoying this as the greens look great and I always enjoy viewing trees and their limb structure as I feel it adds some wonderful details to the image. Very nicely done; no suggestions fro me.
Those trunks are wonderful, I can see what you mean by personalities. They have a lot of character.
Probably personal preference involved more than true critique, but to my eye this is a tad dull. I could see adding a bit of contrast and saturation to give it a little more pop/clarity.
I couldn’t agree more! For me it’s those central trees that are mostly leafless showing their branch structure and the highlights on the branches brings the eye right through the scene. I think I would make the colors of the surrounding trees with all the foliage more saturated to further distinguish them from those centralized and leafless trees focussing eye even more on those tremendous branch structures.
Thanks for the background story on this. It help me understand the importance of the area and these trees and it certainly looks like a great place to contemplate.
