Description
I visited Yosemite after the Ferguson Fires in 2018. The sheer devastation the fire caused was unimaginable. This photo was not planned, I took it through a car window on our way down the winding road.

Hi Matthew,
This is certainly a poignant scene of the devastation caused by the fires that particular year in Yosemite. IMO this is a powerful image about the changing climate conditions we all face in spite of the denials of some. The colors are very nice and the verticals of the burnt trees works very nicely with the horizontal format. I also like the placement of the sun. IMHO you should clean up the right and left edges with a little crop and then remove the remaining intruding tree limbs. It is also a little soft. I am not sure if that is movement or whether it needs sharpening. I hope you do not mind, but here is a rework with what I was thinking. Thanks for sharing!
Hi, Matthew. The colors are beautiful and I appreciate the stark contrast of charred trunks and colorful sunset. I do prefer Ed’s crop/re-work as it’s much stronger without the intruding trees at the edges. You’ve posted some great images and I hope you’ll consider commenting on a few photos posted by other NPN members.
Beautiful - and sad at the same time! Of course nature is nature… it’s only humans that put emtions to a nature scene.
Been by this stretch a few times in recent years - and photographed as well. You sure caught a gorgeous sunset.
I like Ed’s “cleanup” crop, although the limbs on the left don’t bother me. I do agree with cropping the slim trunks on the right; they’re just too close to the edge.
I hope you pulled over and didn’t literally take while driving! not really an LOL… ha ha
