Definitely needs to be seen larger than the thumbnail.
I think the background is kind of busy, but it is out of focus somewhat which helps.
I imagine you were pretty surprised to see it drop out of a tree and to be able to get a focus on it. I’m impressed that you were able to be ready for this image.

Hi Peter, nice catch of what sounds like a quick grab shot. Nice exposure including details in the shadows on the bird. I agree with this pretty tight crop given the background is fairly busy. Your FL workshop looks fun and productive.
I think that you did very well in a very short period of time to capture the egret. Whites look pretty good with good feather detail. The BG is very busy, but those things are out of the photographers control. Well done…Jim
Very nicely done, Peter. I really like the flight pose in this one. The background works for me-there’s so much contrast with the white bird that it doesn’t really matter much what’s back there as long as it isn’t bright. You might play with bringing out a touch more feather detail in the brightest parts of the egret, but it does look very good as posted and it’s easy to go too far on that and end up with a gray bird.

Thank you for the comments. The Egret was very close to flying out of the frame, thus the tight framing. I agree with you about the background.
