Image Description

Two lionesses from the largest pride of lions I have ever seen together are relaxing with a full stomach. Completely carefree, because there are so many family members hidden in the surrounding grass and swamp that there will always be a prey animal that will get surprised. When we saw them gather a little later, we counted 21.

Amboseli, Kenya

Those are some gorgeous lions! I’d love to hear the story behind this shot. Great moment. Great composition

Thank you Matthew!
We had been looking for several days for lions, that were allegedly causing terror in Amboseli. Suddenly, at dusk, we saw three of them lying in the tall grass. One of the three stood up and started walking, then the second did the same, and then the third followed… then suddenly a fourth head appeared and stood up, followed by the fifth, the sixth,… I have never seen such a large group of lions together. We counted 21.

Ingrid, a marvelous image of the lions. What a find, to see 21 of them together.
Excellent colours, poses, and that stare is great.
Really fine work!
