Image Description
Took these a little before sunrise the other day. There was some pretty good glow in the atmosphere creating the pastel pinkish and purplish hues. I hope the colors appear natural. It was a pretty awesome experience!

All of them “bring me there.” including a chilly feeling of what it must have been like standing there!
I especially like the pinks and earth’s shadow present; especially in the last view, which is my favority of the 3. Colors and processing look great.
I really like the wide perspective the 1st image. I’m wondering if it’s an illusion, or is the horizon (through the arch) really tilted like that? Of course easy explanation would be a mountain slope. Not sure if a crop would help, but I’m wondering either A - cropping in from the left to bring more emphasis to the rock, it’s shape and textures… OR cropping both sides to a square format emphasizing the arch itself - which leads to the view thru the arch, which doesn’t draw the view so much.
2nd image. I really like the composition and balance between rock, arch and sky (good thing for the color gradient too!) The downside is the tree thru the arch is a little heavy, almost blocking. Not an image killer, but again when showcasing the arches - begs the question, what do we see peering through that arch?
Which brings to the last image, my favorite. I love the view through the arch even though it’s a bluebird sky - but I’m enjoying how the lovely almost hearth-shaped arch is capturing that late colors in the sky. The presence of the tree? It’s just enough to be ok, any less and maybe a distraction. Composition wise, there is perfect balance between the rock and the bluebird, yet colorful sky. Well done.
Glad you’re here and hope you see more of your images and participation in the forums and galleries.
Hi Bryant,
This is a very nice trio of arch images. The shapes of the arches are fascinating; particularly the heart shaped second one and I love the hint of warm tones in the sky. The scenes do appear natural with the last version being my favorite. My thoughts pretty much align with those of @Lon_Overacker. I think #1 has a little to much information and a crop from the left would simplify the scene and place more of an emphasis on that lovely arch. The heart shape of arch # 2 is striking and unique looking. I do find myself wishing there was a little light on the tree filling the arch as the tones are about the same as the rock so it gets a little lost. Maybe try lightening it up just a little might do the trick. The third is my favorite as your crop focuses the viewer on the arch and that lovely pastel sky. I particularly love the warm light on the underside of the stone. My only suggestion for that one would be to clone or crop out the trees on the left side. Your low POV also works here. Very nicely done.
@bryant this looks like a really fun and challenging scene to shoot, so many possibilities. I really like the “natural” look of the textures, colors, and overall scenes. The first two images I get a bit lost in, the third image resonates with me more. I like the flow of the rock shapes and soft pastel colors in the sky. The peek-a-boo tree/bush works for me. Well done!!!
Welcome Bryant.
I start from the bottom. The image that I prefer is the last because I love very much the arch of beautiful rocks, their neutral color, their warm lights. Also for this reason a second subjet inside the arch disturbs it and contendes its role of dominant subject. A second reason is that I find sweet and peaceful the warm sky that fills the hole. In the chosen image the composition works well for me and the scene is natural.
Thanks @Giuseppe_Guadagno@Lon_Overacker@Ed_Lowe and @Keith_Flood! I appreciate all your feedback! Per some of the suggestions i cropped the first image a little bit ad well as lightening up the mountain slope in the middle of the arch to bring attention to the most importand parts of the photo. I also lightened the tree in the 2nd one, though there was not much I could do there. I wished even at the arch that that tree wasn’t there as i really loved that angle, but could not exclude the tree in the composition. I am grateful for the feedback and that the 3rd image is well liked! I’ll include the new edits of the first and second here. Hope they fix some of the problems that were present.
