I have emphasised the colours but do you think it looks too “unnatural”?

Image Description

I was photographing the sunset at Nairn beach and while the sunset was nice things really lit up after the sun had gone down with the clouds getting a nice pink colour. I chose the green algae covered rock as a foreground detail. No filters but shutter speed was 2.5secs as it was getting dark.

Specific Feedback

Do the colours look too extreme? I did raise vibrance and saturation a bit but the pink glow was how I remember.

I like your composition, subject matter, exposure and SS. The sky colors look fine to me. I do feel areas of the green are a tiny bit too neon looking. JMHO

Hi Colin

I am just down the road from you at Forres. I would say the colours are pretty accurate including the neon green.

Ian

Thanks Michael. The green does look extreme but that Algae does have a very green glow in real life.

Thanks Ian, maybe see you on the coast sometime!

This is a simple, nicely composed image and the colors don’t look overdone to me. We spent a couple weeks on the Oregon coast this summer and it’s amazing how vibrant some of the seaweed and moss can be. The foreground is nicely balanced with the larger section of moss and the other smaller ones behind and to the right. I might consider cropping some of the top as the mostly central horizon makes this a little less dynamic, IMHO.

First impression: Peaceful. I like the way the rocks lead my eye through the image up to that nice sky. The color and contrast look just fine to me,

Nicely done!

Thanks Bret.

Thank you Preston.

Hi Colin,
This is a lovely seascape. I like the placement of that algae covered FG rock as it directs the viewer into the scene beautifully. I am also enjoying the color palette as well although I could also see the green algae toned down just a touch. My only real suggestion would be a crop of some of the sky to move the horizon line a little off center. You still have some nice textures in the surf even with the 2.5 sec SS. This is a very relaxing scene.
