Jason´s Bio

Jason Hatfield is a professional nature and outdoor photographer based in Montrose, Colorado, with over 20 years of experience in digital and film photography and a decade specializing in video and aerial photography. Jason’s primary focus is on documenting the public lands and natural areas of western North America.

Growing up amidst the corn and soy fields of Ohio, Jason’s passion for the outdoors was sparked by family trips to the western United States. These adventures through iconic national parks like Yellowstone, Zion, the Grand Canyon, and Rocky Mountain National Park ignited a lifelong love for exploring natural landscapes.

Over the years, Jason’s desire to explore more remote landscapes has intensified. A sample of his favorite moments includes running rim-to-rim through the Grand Canyon, bike-backpacking in Denali with the peak dominating the skyline and an endless sea of blueberries stretching to the horizon, witnessing the Northern Lights over Iceland’s mountain ranges, kayaking in front of a calving glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park, diving amongst thousands of colorful fish in Thailand’s incredible Similan Islands, and witnessing a total solar eclipse from Wyoming’s highest peak deep in the Wind River Range.

His photography work is driven by a love for traditional landscape photography, spending as much time as possible in nature, and protecting public lands. Jason’s exploration and adventure extend through backpacking, skiing, cycling, packrafting, and using aerial photography to find new and unique photographic perspectives. Jason’s photography not only showcases the astonishing and diverse beauty of nature but also aims to inspire others to appreciate and protect natural areas. Through his vivid images and educational efforts, he strives to motivate people to continue the care of our wilderness, ensuring these natural wonders endure for future generations.

While Jason’s passion is landscape photography, he enjoys a diverse range of photography and video work related to the outdoors. His commercial work has included collaborating with the outdoor media industry, documentaries, production companies, advertising firms, national publications, and environmental advocacy groups. He’s shared his expertise through seminars, workshops, eBooks, and photography tutorials.
