An Awful Itch!

Satisfaction

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I know these are too close and not the best poses from this juvenile elephant seal, but I loved the obvious discomfort from the itch and satisfaction after the nice scratch in this short series. This was taken at the Elephant Seal Preserve just South of the Cape Blanco Lighthouse on the Central California Coast. Every year the young elephant seals seem to arrive in the Fall, before the mature adults come in for Winter breeding and pupping. This beach was full of juvenile delinquents pushing and shoving and scratching and burping and . . . other things, like a bunch of junior high school kids at school.

Specific Feedback

As stated, not sure about the crops and the poses, but I do think they show the issue that this young one was experiencing at the time. I only had my 100-500 with a 1.4 teleconverter on it that limited me to a range of 420 mm to 700 mm. Too close to get a better crop in the moment. Any comments or suggestions are welcomed.
