Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This old tree stands on the shore and is exposed to stones washed up on the shore by the waves. What fascinated me was the interplay of lines, forms and textures of the bark of the tree, on the one hand, and the weed growing between the roots, on the other hand.

Hello, I find that I want to engage with it, but the tall vertical grass blades are interrupting my focus on the great texture in the bark. Because they are also the same color as the light colored ground it feels like an extension of that area and is breaking the image in ways that confuse my visual brain. I want to look at the little clover like plan nestled amoung the roots and the bark but there is too much distraction for me.

Dear David, thanks for your comment, that gives me something to think about. Best wishes, Leo

I was told, when I saw such a tree at Bryce Canyon, those are called “dancing roots”, b/c it seems the tree is going to just take those roots and use as legs and do a nice dance for us. I agree that the grass is a distraction, but the roots are very cool, a nice design to them.

Thanks Judi! Much appreciated. Best, Leo
