Seriously, some fantastic imagery you’ve been capturing and presenting.
How you’ve handled the dynamic range here is quite impressive. I’m not sure what mood you were going for or experienced, but this is jam-packed full of mood and atmosphere. I dunno, “Glory” comes to mind. Maybe Forest Gump said it best, “…when the sun comes up…I couldn’t tell where heaven stopped and the Earth began” That’s what I’m thinking.
Karl: In-freaking-credible! What a spectacular scene and a terrific capture of the moment. Do you use a lightning trigger or just react when a bolt strikes? However you’re accomplishing it the results are marvelous. >=))>
Lon - this is first time I have photographed lightning - used the Bolt Hunter trigger - worth it weight in gold - daytime captures require exposing for the landscape at 1/15 to 1/20 secs and letting the trigger do its job.
At night however, there is a Night mode which didnt seem that effective and I dont know why. Instead, for eg I bracketed sunsets like this one and then chose. As it got darker, i did time lapse and actually made a half decent movie which I would be happy to share here - but dont know how to - movement of clouds with that of the milky Way came out quite sweet
And Lon, yes - I am in the process of making a coffee table book - 20 pages - with some edu on lightning, the atmosphere, with about 12-14 images to support it
Beautiful image, Karl and your instinct to go with the revised version really works for me. Getting the golden light into those areas changed the mood a lot and smoothed the transitions in the image which appealed to me.
