Black Oyster Catcher on the Rocks

My favorite Black Oyster Catcher photo of 2019. The last time I posted this there was split opinions on how much of the background rocks should be shown. This is the uncropped version which I still prefer. I like how the dark background and the dark bird brings out those crazy eyes and beak even more than normal.

Gary, you’ve come to the right place with your full frame view. While the details in the bird are very striking, I’m really liking how much of it’s environment you’re showing. As presented, this view tells a story about a striking bird in a very rugged environment. While you could crop to 4x5 and still show the dark rocks, the full frame views creates a sense that these rocks go on for a long ways, making the bird’s presence more striking. Yes, that eye is “crazy”. It really pops in the large view.
