Bluebird

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was fortunate to be out in the country yesterday standing near some fencing and a flock of western bluebirds flew in and proceeded to use the fence as a vantage point for scoping out insects on the ground. I managed several shots of them and this is my favorite.

Specific Feedback

Cropping okay? I thought about dodging that upper RH area a bit but decided to leave it alone. What say you?

Technical Details

Z9, 180-600 lens, Nikon 1.4 TC, hand held, 1/2500th, f 9, 1260mm, ISO 1600, cropped to 2059 x 2197.

Very nice pose from the bluebird, Dave. It seems just a bit dark and I think if you selected the bird and brought up the shadows on the back it would work even better. For some reason the face seems a tiny bit soft. Were you using bird eye AF?

Yes, I was using bird eye AF. I see what you mean, though. Thanks for your input.

Hi Dave
Love the light, head turn and eye contact. I think the softness Dennis was talking about may have more to do with the 75% crop, than eye focus.
