About This Image

This is a great time of year for Gulf Fritillaries in our garden. We have some passion vines that provide the caterpillars and our neighbor has a nice stand of lantana that keeps them busy. I had a lot of fun chasing this fellow (?) around and shooting as he flitted from bloom to bloom. Had lots of bad wing blur/missed focus but things pretty much came together for me on this one. While the wings aren’t quite sharp tip to tip the body and antennae look good and on this frame the proboscis was extended into the flower. >=))>

Feedback Requested

I gave this one a bit more room than I typically allow on stationary subjects where my default is usually to fill the frame as much as possible. Plus, even with an XT aboard I couldn’t get much closer.

Beautiful job, Bill, and I like the extra room to give the poor critter some breathing space. The top view does a great job of showing off the wing patterns.

Outstanding complementary color, detail, and composition.

Gorgeous composition and colours - Great job.

You’ll have more opportunities to get other configurations - but this is really nice and I’m fine with slight wing tip blur
