Common Camas

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Our property is pretty much carpeted with this flower this time of year and it’s a bulb that managed to survive in this area for years under a canopy of Scotch Broom without dying out, so I figured I could safely cut a couple of stems to get them out of the breeze and do some stacking. I took shots without the bottle top showing, but I liked this one better.

Specific Feedback

How’s the composition? Are the light border lines a bit too light to be effective? I tried leveling the bottle using both sides of the bottle , but neither is absolutely vertical, so I just played it by ear-close enough? Anything else?

Technical Details

Sony A7Rv, FE 70-200 f/4 macro @ 70 mm, 70 images at f/5, 1/125, iso 200. Light from a bathroom skylight and a white paint canvas as background. Pulled up the exposure and highlights, and dragged down the shadows in LR, Straightened and added a touch of canvas on the sides in PS using content aware fill and added the border. Taken this afternoon at 1:28 p.m.

Dennis: Oh this is fine! I like the bottle top and how you arranged the flowers which are beautifully presented in this high key shot. Most excellent. :+1: :+1:>=))>

Sweet!! I’m loving all the flower images, and this one is just lovely.
The bottle top adds a lot of interest for me, and the comp is perfect.

Hi,

When I first looked at this one, the bottle top looked like some ripples. Comp looks pretty good and the edges of the plant are nice and crisp against the white. I like the room around the blooms and the white BG gives a nice graphical feel to the image…Jiom

Gorgeous!! You have captured and abstracted the intricate beauty of the little blooms. I love the translucency of some of the petals and the hint of the bottle and the refractions it is contributing. No suggestions!!

So airy and light. The variation in the colors is quite nice - blue to lavender. I think t he bottle works well with the crossed stems. The various blooming progress and angles to the camera make this very engaging and lively. Sweet job. One thing I might do is to reduce the dark edge of the left side bottle neck. Fabulous work.

Congratulations on the EP, Dennis! A lovely and different image!

I love this, Dennis. Nice work.
