Description

Jaguar cub, Brazil’s Pantanal
This little 3-month-old male cub has everyone excited. There are several male jags in this area, but all are quite shy and difficult to find. The females are much less shy. This little guy’s mother, aunts, and grandmother are all very acclimated to all the boats in the river photographing them, and he is already used to all the attention and not shy at all. Think “Bear Jam” in Yellowstone. The boats are never nearer than about 100 yards, no one can approach on foot, and the cats just ignore them and go about hunting, playing, and napping in the open. An amazing experience!

Sandy, another wonderful moment in the trips you have been able to take. The little cub has a playful demeanor that keeps me wanting to stay with him/her. I love your composition and have nothing to add except one very small nit. That little branch that shows up in the lower right corner is a bit of a distraction when one does “border patrol.” Sandy, thanks for sharing this little one with us.

Oh, he’s adorable. I love that shy look he’s giving you Sandy. What a great shot. I love that huge old tree too.

Sandy: thisis a very well composed image of this young jaguar. I particularly like the framing of the cub with the tree trunks. Well done.

Wonderful capture! For 100 yards at 600mm, this must be a huge crop. IQ held up very well.

Thanks, Barbara - missed that little bit of a branch. duh. edited.
