Dealing with mood & lack of colour

You may only download this image to demonstrate post-processing techniques.

This is pretty much my first attempt to create something which is moody & I’d love some feedback.

Specifically, I’m trying to work out how to use a dulled down almost monochrome colour with contrast to lead the eye into the frame. The focus is on the foreground however as the eye goes up it doesn’t quite know what to look at and I’m wondering how this can be worked on.

Pertinent technical details or techniques:

single shot just under 1sec with the fog being added in with a brush on softlight (the sky had blown & I thought this might be a good way to circumnavigate that)

Cheers!

Hi Dale,

Bombo Quarry! I’m also working to get better at processing for mood. For me it can often be done by using one colour hue in the image and using different shades within this hue. IE monochromatic.

For this image I think that a range of blue hues would create a mood.

I’ve tweaked the white balance and boosted the saturation of the blue channel of your jpeg using the camera raw filter as well as reducing the saturation on the red and green channels. This is a quick edit but hopefully gives you an idea for a direction to take the image.
